First Lessons in Arithmetic - Lesson XIX: subtraction

Subtraction math worksheets:

WIKI: Word problems commonly include mathematical modelling questions, where data and information about a certain system is given and a student is required to develop a model. For example:

  1. Jane has $5 and she uses $2 to buy something. How much does she have now?
  2. If the water level in a cylinder of radius 2 m is rising at a rate of 3 m per second, what is the rate of increase of the volume of water?
These examples are not only intended to force the students into developing mathematical models on their own, but may also be used to promote mathematical interest and understanding by relating the subject to real-life situations. The relevance of these situations to the students is varying. The situation in the first example is well-known to most people and may be useful in helping primary school students to understand the concept of subtraction.

First Lessons in Arithmetic Review Exercises - Addition

Math worksheet.

Addition is the mathematical process of putting things together. The plus sign "+" means that numbers are added together. For example, in the picture on the right, there are 3 + 2 apples—meaning three apples and two other apples—which is the same as five apples, since 3 + 2 = 5. Besides counts of fruit, addition can also represent combining other physical and abstract quantities using different kinds of numbers: negative numbers, fractions, irrational numbers, vectors, and more.
